On December 1st 2020, Mai Soli Foundation had the honor of winning a $1,000 grant through The Greater Sum’s Audience Favorite Pitch Competition! The Greater Sum Foundation supports innovation in nonprofit organizations. This week, Mai Soli Foundation’s Founder and President, Aria Mustary, was featured on Canal Sur, the main national news station for Andalucia (the south of Spain). In this interview, she explains the goals of the foundation, how the goals are reached, and her inspiration.

Child marriage is an issue that most people agree should be eradicated. The greater the news coverage the issue has, and the more communities become aware that it is still a problem, the closer Mai Soli Foundation is to ending child marriage once and for all.

A brief overview of Mai Soli Foundation:

Mai Soli Foundation tackles large-scale societal problems like child marriage and cyclical dependency by addressing the roots of gender inequality. Their research found the primary root cause of child marriage to be financially motivated, as girls are considered economic liabilities to their families, lacking neccessary skills and knowledge to join the workforce. They therefore concluded that the best course of action would be to position girls to be as good if not better investment than boys for their communities. This month, Mai Soli Foundation kicked off its pilot launch in Chittagong, Bangladesh. To prepare for the pilot, the foundation’s team worked tirelessly refining curricula, establishing connections with local schools, and coordinating ground logistics. However, while the team built this incredible machine of a program, someone had to provide the power.
